At ABC we have prepared a list of the five most spectacular rivers in the province , where you can go hiking, take a dip in its crystal-clear waters and practice active tourism, which is gaining more followers every year. Pools, waterfalls, rock slides and the sound of water will make you live a different experience that you will want to repeat.
Green River (Istanu)
This route is usually very popular in the summer months. It is simple, but you have to be careful with the verdigris that accumulates on the rocks, which gives its name to the river and can cause us to stumble.
The route starts from the municipality of Istanu, in the heart of the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, and the waters of the river flow into the La Concepción reservoir. During the tour we will find several pools, some quite deep, an artificial waterfall and the well-known Charcot del Canal on , a natural pool with large rocks on the shore, ideal for sitting and sunbathing.
Turron River (El Burgoo)
The river Turin forms some unique pools as it passes through AR dales , but it is closer to the municipality of El Burgoo where it leaves extraordinary prints that the residents of the nearby towns have enjoyed for decades and now receive numerous visitors.
The Largo del Deque puddle is ideal for swimming, despite the fact that the temperature of the water is quite cold throughout the year. The vegetation of this enclave of the Sierra de las Nieves creates some shaded areas in which to settle down to spend the day.
Río Guadalmina (Benahavís)
It is born from the springs of the Sierra Bermejo, near Benahavís. The route, known as the Angostura’s , extends approximately three kilometers and getting wet is mandatory.
The flow is permanent and the volume of water is high throughout the year. During its course, the river forms several meanders before entering narrow and deep canyons carved by its waters.
In some areas, the water is too deep to cross on foot and the lack of light in the canyons makes the water temperature very cold, even in summer.
Padron River (Estepona)
The Padron River rises on the southern slopes of Sierra Bermejo, about thirteen kilometers from the coast. At its head, the pine and cork oak forests frame its course and the water falls strongly. On its way, it leaves a dreamlike postcard, the crystal clear waters of the Charka de la Extranjera , in which the surrounding vegetation is reflected, leaving some shaded areas.
You can access by car to an esplanade where you can park. From this point a branch starts up to the riverbed and ascending several meters you reach the pond. It is of medium size and only covers the central area . The low height of the surrounding rocks will tempt us to jump into the water, but it is not recommended if the depth does not allow us to do so safely.
Manila River (Cazares)
From the emblematic Banes de Hacienda, there is a path parallel to the Manila riverbed through which to reach the Charcot del Inferno, a pool embedded in a ravine that causes the river to precipitate in several waterfalls . Access is somewhat complex, hence it is not as crowded as other enclaves.
Keep in mind that for a few years, with the arrival of summer, the flow drops and the river may even stop flowing, so it is advisable to find out before choosing this route. If bathing is possible, it is not recommended to jump from the rocks or commit imprudence when going up the waterfalls, one of the most complicated moments of the route.
